Xerox says it is the industry’s first digital colour press to address the needs of print operations that have mid-range monthly print volumes that require more advanced printing features.

The Docucolor 5000 is designed for print providers that average between 30,000 and 150,000 impressions per month. The machine has a high-capacity paper feeder holding 4,000 sheets, with an optional feeder that can expand capacity to 8,000 sheets from four trays, and it can feed all media from all trays, a feature that Xerox says is a key productivity advantage.

Other features include a 2,400 dots per inch (dpi) x 2,400dpi print resolution and laser technology. The Docucolor 5000’s 32-beam laser – compared to a typical two-beam laser – is claimed to allow the press to scan more data faster and at a higher resolution.

There are two optional finishing devices – a high-capacity stacker, and a stacker and stapler.

Xerox says the digital press also offers tighter registration and a wider choice of colour management capabilities than light-production digital colour systems currently on the market.

It is designed to produce marketing brochures, posters and customised direct-mail pieces, amongst other print products, and will maintain its speed when printing on heavyweight, oversized and coated paper.

The digital printing press is one of a number of new products designed to bolster Xerox’s colour printing portfolio, and was unveiled at the AIIM/On Demand trade show recently in the US.

Xerox has sold more than 16,000 Xerox Docucolor production systems worldwide. It has nine products ranging in speed from the 40ppm Xerox Docucolor 240 to the 110ppm Xerox iGen3 digital press.
