Local label and packaging manufacturers learned how a UK label printer took his company from flexo to digital printing and grew the business 25 per cent year on year.
The Xeikon Café road show stopped off at Auckland this week, bringing with it Simon Smith and Adam James, from CS Labels in England, who delivered presentations on their experience with the Xeikon technology.
Smith, managing director at CS Labels, explained the history of the company and how it came up with a strategy to differentiate itself from its competitors. He said, “Our ability to differentiate ourselves us is important because we are not the cheapest. Digital is not just bout short runs, or no origination cost, flexibility, or cost effectiveness. Digital offers us the chance to discuss brand development; route to market; brand promotion and customer interaction.”
CS Labels runs five Xeikon machines, including the new Cheetah. Smith says, “The Cheetah runs brilliantly. We are seeing consumables last as long as the other presses. We have improved the workflow so there is less human interaction. The drying on the Xeikon is far higher We have seen our productivity gains by 80-90 per cent.”
James, CS Labels production manager, spoke about the technical advantages of the technology and how the company had placed it into the production workflow. Filip Weymans, label and packaging director at Xeikon, spoke about trends in labels and packaging and also delivered a presentation on some of Xeikon’s upcoming innovations, which the company will release at Labelexpo.
