The hanger — which has been entered in this year’s Pride In Print Awards — evolved from The Langham’s desire to find a green alternative to the plastic hangers used in its dry cleaning service, says Westprint director Martin Nicholson.

“There is a similar item overseas, but this was too expensive to bring in and had no branding,” he says.

“The idea was already out there, but we elaborated on it by adding the debossing with the recycling information about the hotel.”

Mr Nicholson says the hangers, which were produced on 3000mic 100%-recycled Muda Boxboard, was a new concept to all parties involved.

“It really was a joint effort between ourselves, TTL Press and Inline Graphics. It was unique in the sense of getting the debossing blocks mounted directly onto the cutting forme. This had to be tested with various depths of blocks and eventually it came out with an extremely clean result being cut and debossed in one hit.

“Planning was the key to the job and as a result it went very smoothly … we now have to find an easier way to break out eight pallets of coat hangers by hand!

Mr Nicholson says The Langham was equally pleased.

“It worked out cheaper to do the 25,000 hangers in New Zealand and they’ve now had it personally branded.

“The Langham is aiming to be a world leader in environmentally-friendly solutions within the hospitality industry. Nicholas Blake and Tammy Hilton are leading the charge and have just recently had a very successful Earth Hour event.

“They are currently working to raise awareness within the hotel and promote environmentally-friendly and sustainable products.”
