Reprographic has just bought one of the latest EBA 480 EP guillotines through T. S. Wilson Jnr Ltd, a move that has enabled the department to bring much of its finishing work back in house, says manager Tui Powell.

Tui says the prime focus of Reprographic is EIT work, including manuals, class hand-outs, exams etc "but we also provide colour-copying and assignment presentation options for students."

It also takes on general work from some of the companies the institute partners with, including the digital printing of advertising material and signage.

"In 30 years EIT has formed a number of significant partnerships not only with tertiary institutes throughout New Zealand and overseas but with local businesses and other entities and the latter sometime come to us for their advertising or other printing needs," she says.

Reprographic recently appointed a desk-top publisher and at that stage realised the need to replace the department's original guillotine which was 30 years old, and they are thrilled with the choice they made.

Tui says there is simply no comparison.

"Our old guillotine couldn't do A3 work, for instance. The EBA is a precision machine, it's very simple to use with set measurements able to be programmed in, and it cuts up to SRA2 stock."

The EBA 480 EP has a 475mm cutting width and an electro-mechanical blade drive. It comes with a manual spindle clamp and a programmable keypad for backguage control. It has an electronic digital display within 0.10mm accuracy and it comes with nine programmes.

She says it was very simple to use and their new desktop publisher was familiar with the machine, which meant he could pass on the knowledge of how to use it to others in the department.

She says Reprographic has also purchased a wide format printer for banners and other large posters "which will enhance our capabilities and improve service to EIT and associated partners."
