This year’s Single Width Users’ Group (Swug) Conference will take place at Wellington’s Copthorne Hotel on August 3-4. Organisers have set an interactive and engaging agenda the theme of Printfinity and Beyond. The event gets stronger each year and can expect to attract over 130 delegates and suppliers in August, which reflects the strength of interest and passion in this sector of the print industry.
The Swug Awards for Printing Excellence and the Apprentice of the Year will take place at Te Papa Museum to a James Bond theme.
Dan Blackbourn, chair of Swug, says, “We have a fantastic line up of presentations, guest speakers and surprise events that will ensure delegates are riveted throughout. As well as providing an invaluable opportunity to network with fellow members and suppliers in our unique industry, the conference features a strong list of expert speakers in a variety of fields. “There is still a lot of life in the print industry and will be for some time, and this conference is shaping up to be one of our best.†Keynote speakers include Nicky Trevitihick, from Workcare, who will deliver a presentation on the risks associated with drugs and alcohol in the workplace. Blackbourn says, “Having spent over 16 years with the Police, Nicky has seen first hand the impact of drug and alcohol abuse. “Now in the private sector, she is passionate about educating the public on the issue, and to help firms implement robust drug and alcohol policies. This includes educating staff on best practice which both delivers a safer work environment as well as ultimately benefiting the family unit and wider community.†Phil Lawrence, print industry environmental commentator and academic, will address the business cost of poor electricity quality. “A long-term servant to the sector, Lawrence has worked at Sydney University, researching industry’s impact on the environment using the print sector as his example.
