Colour specialist Sun Chemical, the world’s largest maker of inks and pigments, is linking up with Heidelberg, the world’s largest sheetfed offset press manufacturer, on new projects to benefit mutual customers worldwide.

Sun Chemicals is the parent company of Coates New Zealand and a leading provider of materials to packaging, publication, coatings, plastics, cosmetics, and other industries.

Ground-breaking research and development between Heidelberg and Sun Chemical on offset press inking was pivotal to the success of the new Heidelberg ’Anicolor’ unit which has no inking zones. The unit makes it possible to produce even the shortest of runs using standard offset workflow but with significantly higher margins.

Mike Winthrop, who heads up the Consumables Corporate Division of Heidelberg says: “We are working together closely with Sun Chemical and looking at ways of forging new co-operation opportunities that will benefit our customers. IPEX seemed an appropriate opportunity to have interesting discussions.”

Felipe Mellado, Corporate Vice-President, Marketing and Technology, Sun Chemical Europe, adds:”Our partnership with Heidelberg demonstrates the commitment both companies have made to advance developments. The ’Anicolor’ breakthrough was one of the most important developments in sheetfed offset press design, and we are working together on the next stages of the partnership with more details to be announced soon.”
