IfraExpo is touted as the world’s largest and most important annual exhibition dedicated to the international newspaper industry.

Screen will be showing its new PlateRite News 2000, together with Trueflow Rite News, the automated workflow system specifically designed for newspaper production.

The PlateRite News 2000’s productivity is ideal for the newspaper industry, where the ability to move quickly through the production processes is critical, Screen says.

The platesetter features a 64-channel laser diode imaging head and images plates from 290mm x 460mm up to a maximum plate size of 980mm x 685mm. It can output 84 broadsheet plates or 41 double-wide plates per hour.

As the volume of colour pages in newspapers continues to increase, so too has the demand for even higher levels of quality. This has led to a growth in the use of thermal plates, a trend acknowledged by IFRA who recently reported that the market share for thermal had grown to 20%.

Trueflow Rite News, the automated workflow system specifically for newspaper production, provides the necessary functionality for CTP output of plates in a newspaper prepress environment. Four standard image settings (1,000 dpi, 1,016 dpi, 1,200 dpi and 1,270 dpi) provide a choice of resolutions, while support for Screen’ s SPEKTA AM/FM screening enables the production of extraordinary quality with lower screen rulings. Screen Europe marked its entry into the newspaper market earlier this year at IPEX with the launch of the PlateRite News 2000 CTP system.

The thermal platesetter incorporates Screen’s expert CTP technology that has been fine-tuned through years of use for commercial printing applications.
