Global security label company SATO has acquired New Zealand label printer Jenkins Labels to strengthen its presence in the region.

Buying Jenkins will complement SATO’s NZ operations in Auckland, Christchurch and Dunedin and add a swathe of self-adhesive label products to its range.

“This acquisition of a proven market leader boosts our network and lineup to improve our ability to deliver comprehensive labeling solutions to New Zealand customers,” SATO chief executive Kaz Matsuyama says.

Jenkins specialises in primary labels, shrink sleeve labels, and wraparound labels, self-adhesive product labelling, promotional material, and plain and overprintable labels.

This will be combined with SATO NZ’s operational labeling, courier labeling, laboratory labeling, printers, barcode scanning and traceability products.

SATO New Zealand managing director Kerry Langley says Jenkins has been a front-runner in the local market for years, particularly in the food and beverage sector.

Jenkins Labels’ sister company Jenkins Freshpak Systems, which produces specialised labels for the horticulture market in New Zealand and Australia, is not part of the deal and will continue to operate independently.

However, the two companies have formed a strategic partnership to expand services to horticulture customers to include printing and traceability solutions.
