The two women bought the business two and a half years ago from Geoff Alexander who died suddenly in 2005, after working in the family-owned business which started out as a print shop about 35 years ago.

They say they have been gradually upgrading equipment. They are the first to purchase a Sunray 433 model guillotine from AMS:Allied Machinery Services  which has taken over the Sunray agency in New Zealand.

Cathy says they were using an older, almost manual machine that was hard to operate and not very accurate.

“We’d looked at getting a new machine, but they all seemed too expensive. AMS showed us this one and we couldn’t believe that it came with all the features we needed within our price range,” she says.

The guillotine is fully automatic, “gives an excellent cut” and is easy to operate.

AMS says the electrically driven machine comes in two models suitable for quieter environments like copy centres.

All Sunray guillotines have a powered blade, clamp and back gauge and come with digital displays and are programmable as an option.
