In Wellington it is running a two-day event from August 8-9 with the focus on inviting secondary schools in the region to attend.

It will also give printers an opportunity to promote the industry to their clients and will include a display of the winning Pride In Print awards for 2007 and 2006 featuring all the Wellington winners.

The event will include a seminar outlining the process involved in selecting winning entries.

In Auckland PrintNZ is looking at a partnership opportunity with Work and Income New Zealand (WINZ) in running courses for people interested in entering the industry.

The courses will be open to a variety of people from those between jobs, or those coming off benefits such as the DPB, as well as some long term unemployed.

PrintNZ CEO Joan Grace says the programmes would involve 6-8 weeks pre-employment training in skills the industry wants, followed up by six months on-job support for each person to ensure they are comfortable in the workplace. Industry would be involved in selecting the people who would go on the course.

PrintNZ is looking for companies interested in participating in the programme.
