Rhys Daube, managing director Printing Supplies and Machinery, says, “The fact that the machine is waterless creates a lot of interest. What they’re discovering is that because it’s waterless, it takes that mystery out of the offset process.”

Presstek says that the machine has a maximum speed of 10,00 sheets per hour, covering stock 0.06-0.5mm thick, with image resolution of 100 dots/mm, and spot size 16 microns.

Daube continues, “This press bridges the gap between offset and digital. A business that’s finding offset no longer cost effective might look at digital, but it gets to a point where that isn’t so economical either, and that’s where the 52DI comes in. The sweet spot for this machine is over 400, in fact from 400 to 20,000.

“The machine’s capabilities mean the colour gamut you can reach allows you to match just about the full book of pantone colours. The waterless factor means you save time and money. There’s not drying time and you don’t need the expertise that offset demands. You get shorter makeready and you’re printing sellable sheets within 5-10 sheets of start up, and that’s consistent. Without water, you have a lot of that guesswork taken away.”
