The main increase was in international visitors who represented almost double the number over Day One in 2003. There was also a slight increase in visitors from states other than NSW.

"Whilst it is too early to predict total visitor numbers for the entire exhibition, these early figures certainly indicate that PrintEx is starting to be seen as an event not just for those in the printing industry in NSW, but as a worthwhile and important event for the Australian industry overall," says Brian Thomas, exhibition director, Reed Exhibitions.

The first PrintEx Forum, facilitated by journalist, author and former rugby player, Peter FitzSimons was held yesterday – Control Your Future – and attendance exceeded expectation, with only standing room available for many attendees. The panel, led by keynote presenter, Gordon Towell, group chief executive, Geon Group provided a thought-provoking overview of some of the many challenges for the industry.

"The introduction of the PrintEx Forums will set the benchmark for what is sure to be the start of ongoing print industry discussion and debate," says Grant Churchill, chairman, PrintEx07.

"Our industry currently faces many challenges including the environment, off shore sourcing – particularly China – the impact of digital technologies, demographic changes and generational attitudes. We need to know what we are facing and be prepared to gear our businesses accordingly," says Churchill.

PrintEx07 concludes today – Saturday 26 May. Opening hours are 10.00am – 4.00pm.
