Panprint received an award for the best label print job for its Stoneleigh Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2003 self-adhesive reelfed label, which was printed on behalf of Allied Domecq Wines New Zealand (now Pernod Ricard New Zealand).

The unique over-coating that Panprint managing director Jeff Marsh says “Coat X” — the formula of which is being closely guarded, has been specifically developed by his company.

“Preventing this type of label damage is a significant challenge to the industry and the results are being well received and utilised by New Zealand and Australian wineries,” he says.

“We are big into innovation. Through our testing, development and tenacity, we have essentially given wineries, their marketers and designers the choice of sectionless cases and the ability to use uncoated stocks for their labels.”

Although Mr Marsh admits all embellishing techniques used on this label presented their own challenges, he says the job that won the award was essentially one of many done by Panprint on a daily basis.

Panprint, which specialises in sheetfed as well as label printing, will this year be celebrating its 50th year as a private and independent New Zealand printing company.

It is one of the most awarded printers in the country with 115 Highly Commendeds, 51 Gold Medals, three times a Supreme Award Finalist and once a Supreme Award Winner to its credit.
