Along with that growth, the West Auckland-based company has had three shifts into larger premises each time within the same small industrial enclave in St Georges Road, Avondale and has upgraded its equipment along the way.

Perfection Print has just installed a new five-colour Komori 528, along with a Duplo System 5000 booklet maker, which it upgraded from its Duplo System 2000 bought through Duplo's sole New Zealand agent, TS Wilson Jnr Ltd.

Managing director Colin Cao says the new booklet maker which collates, stitches and trims in one action has sped up production 400% producing between 4000-5000 booklets an hour and has positioned the company for future growth.

"It is a very fast machine and it is perfect for us because we do a lot of magazines and newsletters every month. It is so fast that we have reduced our overtime."

The Duplo 5000 is a high volume booklet maker incorporating a new generation belt suction collator, touch screen and Hohner stitching heads.

Colin says he likes the Duplo brand and looked no further when he wanted to upgrade his other booklet maker.

"We really liked the other Duplo machine but we needed something faster because our volumes have grown."

He says the new machine and printing press means that now absolutely everything is done in-house, a considerable cost saving for their clients. It has also given them the ability to take on other printer's overflow or urgent work.

"We now do everything at Perfection from design through to the finished job. We can die-cut, emboss, foil and output film and we have a wide format digital printer as well. We have our own design department and offer a complete service."

Colin says he and business partner Johnny Wang have built their business on providing excellent service, refusing to shut their doors at the traditional time of 4pm on Fridays.

"We've always been very flexible. If people wanted a job done urgently over the weekend then we've worked all weekend to do it for them and this is where our growth has come from. We never say we cannot do it, because it is outside traditional hours."
