Precise control of spot colours, Generic Output Profile support, new soft proofing features and faster automatic colour matching and calibration top the list of enhancements to the award-winning contract proofing system.

ORIS Color Tuner’s spot colour controls have been significantly extended. They now include the ability to simulate spot colour opacity and dot gain, as well as specify the print order of individual colours. This capability is critical for commercial and packaging printers who deal with complex, and often customized combinations of spot and CMYK inks. The new version also adds support for Pantone Color Bridge and, as an optional module, GretagMacbeth’s implementation of Generic Output Profiles (GOP) for n-channel ICC workflows.

CGS’ revolutionary display-based proofing option has also been enhanced with this release. ORIS Soft Proof now compares the monitor’s colour gamut with the intended printing conditions and determines, within a tolerance set by the administrator, whether the monitor is capable of accurately representing the colours in the job. The administrator may also specify a time interval for monitor calibration.
Other improvements include automatic email notifications, support for JPEG2000 compression and improvements to the ORIS Soft Proof plugin for Acrobat.

The new version continues CGS’ policy of adding direct support for new measurement and output devices. GretagMacbeth’s iO device for the Eye-One spectrophotometer is fully supported, for linearisation as well as automatic colour matching and device calibration. For all devices, the speed of colour matching and calibration has been improved – both in the speed of calculation and in the enhancement of the product’s software wizards.
To the list of printers now supported directly, ORIS Color Tuner 5.2 adds the Canon W6400 and W8400 dye-based machines, as well as the Hewlett Packard DesignJet 500, 800 and 4000. Other HP printers have been optimised in the CGS printer driver.
Pricing for the upgrade will be made available when the release is finalized. The upgrade will be free to holders of current service agreements.
