Te Papa Press has improved its chances for a solid future after partnering with Massey University Press. Steve Maharey, vice-chancellor for Massey University, and Rick Ellis, chief executive for the national museum have signed an agreement that commits them to work together and produce books under two separate imprints: Te Papa Press and Massey University Press. Massey University Press will provide the publishing infrastructure. Well-known publisher Nicola Legat will act as publisher for both imprints. However, Te Papa will retain a full-time in-house editor. Ellis says, “We are delighted to partner with Massey University and to work with a publisher of Nicola Legat’s calibre. Te Papa Press will continue its proud legacy of scholarly, relevant and engaging publishing. This partnership ensures a sustainable future for Te Papa Press.†Legat has a stellar record in the industry, as a journalist and editor and as publishing director for Random House. She says, “This partnership will provide exciting opportunities for writers and quality outcomes for readers. Publishers are finding new ways to succeed in a changing book market. I am determined to honour the work that’s been done to date, and to carry the mana of Te Papa Press forward.â€
