Stretching some 30 metres, the Rapida 105 press comprises a coater, two dryers and eight printing units followed by a further coater, two dryers, a final coater and a double-length extended delivery.

The a 15-unit coating press has gone to the Model group’s controlling company, Model Holding based in Weinfelden, which operates thirteen production plants and is a leading supplier of corrugated and cardboard packaging.

The group also owns ten packaging “shops” and five sales subsidiaries. Last year the 2,700 employees on the group’s payroll generated consolidated sales worth a total of 545 million Swiss francs ($44m).

Model PrimePac is making the most of the press’s remarkable coating prowess on both paper and board to tap into new markets and applications.

Since the Rapida was put into operation last month it has enabled the company to add an array of new products to its portfolio, and it is aiming to exploit these to grow market share.

KBA says the key criteria in Model Group buying the Rapida over other brands was the bearing technology, the drives and the stable, rigid frames and KBA’s expertise in designing press lines for highly specialised applications.
