This year sees a new beginning for promoting and celebrating the graduating apprentices of the printing and packaging industries.

Every training graduate from 2014 will have the opportunity to attend a graduation ceremony in front of family, friends and employers. Ceremonies in the North and South island will take place in April; one in Auckland and the second in Christchurch.

PrintNZ has initiated these events to provide a memorable celebration for the graduates, their employers, and families and to publicly acknowledge the training they have undertaken. The organisation also sees it as an opportunity to raise the profile of those training and to highlight the opportunities for training that exist in the New Zealand printing industry today.

Ruth Cobb, manager at PrintNZ, says the graduation ceremonies will give the industry an opportunity to celebrate successful training and to showcase the various training programmes offered. She says, “Today’s training covers not only the traditional print-based programmes but also includes areas such as sales, business admin, first-line management, lean manufacturing and the Diploma in Print Management.”

PrintNZ sees the graduation ceremonies as a public forum to provide:

  • Employees with the opportunity to celebrate completing training courses in 2014 and an opportunity to be publicly recognised in front of those that have supported them on their journey and by their industry peers
  • An opportunity for industry to recognise the value of graduates and give graduates an opportunity to gain a higher profile for achieving a qualification within the printing industry
  • Recognition to businesses and employers prepared to invest in their employees
  • Board members, industry personnel and trainers the opportunity to recognise and celebrate with those that have achieved qualifications in 2014
  • Establish a signature event for future years and future graduates.

In addition, Print NZ will make presentations to:
• the Diploma in Print Management finalists and winner
• the best training company and trainer of 2014
• the best 12 apprentices across all programmes and the announcement of the final top five apprentices who will go forward to the prestigious Pride In Print Awards ceremony on May 1 in Wellington, where PrintNZ will name the Apprentice of the Year

Cobb says, “The graduations will provide the industry another excellent opportunity to promote and reward the best of the best. This is an exciting initiative and all print industry members are welcome to come along acknowledge and celebrate the graduates of 2014.”
