Huhtamaki says it will restructure its food service packaging business in New Zealand and China, affecting 15 employees in Henderson. The company says the changes will improve the competitiveness of its food service business in Asia and Oceania. It adds that the Chinese and New Zealand operations have adversely affected Huhtamaki’s earnings in 2015 and the first quarter of this year. From its changes, Huhtamaki will book approximately €8m, as items affecting comparability in its Europe-Asia-Oceania business segment in the second quarter of 2016. It will consolidate its food service packaging manufacturing operations in South China into one unit. The company says it will focus its manufacturing on a defined core foodservice packaging product range and it will strengthen its outsourcing capabilities. In total, the changes will affect some 350 Huhtamaki employees.
