The company announced its plans in May 2005, saying the consolidation of its 85 data centres worldwide into six larger centres located in three US cities, would save about $1 billion in the coming years.

HP says the move will “improve accountability and executive focus through a simpler reporting structure with fewer management layers.”
The company’s three main business groups — Imaging and Printing Group, Personal Systems Group and Technology Solutions Group — will now have greater accountability over the full range of their operational activities, HP added.
