Wanting to increase its presence in the 3D printing market, HP has acquired the 3D hardware and software assets of German companies David Vision Systems and David 3D Solutions. HP says the takeover will boost opportunities for the company in the US$7bn 3D scanning market and will also enhance its Sprout technology, which offers a desktop 3D scanner with 3D object capture, editing and multiple streamlined 3D print options. The company wants to use David’s 3D scanning technology and to expand Sprout. The deal will see HP acquiring David’s scanning, stitching, and fusing solution as well as David’s team of 3D experts. 3D featured at this year’s drupa as graphics giants Kodak, Ricoh and Canon showed their foray various atempts at 3D printing technology.
