The NZSDA says the awards, which attracted a record 419 entries, are about recognising the diverse and broad spectrum of fields of endeavour within which its members operate. Awards judges, Chris Field, Bryan Hills and Les Berridge, identified 70 plus winners in the 16 classes, which ranged from vehicles and point of sale, through to dimensional signs and works by apprentices.

Dame Susan Devoy, former world squash champion handled MC duties at the formal function, the 13th awards event, in the Hawkes Bay Opera House.

Gold medals went to Rocket, Signwise Auckland Ltd, Peek, and Display Corporation, all from Auckland; Dzine Signs and Fine Signs from Wellington; Miller Studios Ltd and Durable Graphics Ltd from Dunedin; JBFX Ltd, from Kaiapoi; Horton Signs from Rangiora; Signtech the Signmasters Ltd from Christchurch; Sign It Signs from Queenstown; Creation Signs from Invercargill; Power Signs Nelson Ltd from Nelson; and Add Impact Signs and Image Effects Ltd, both Hastings.

Equal first placed apprentices, Jonathan McGovern of Atkin Signs and Graphics of Napier and Rebecca Bell of Northbridge Signs of Auckland’s North Shore received gold medals. Stacey Davidson of NZ Sign Company of Hamilton won bronze. Josh Coonan from Add Impact Signs took four medals for work entered into the Apprentice Class, two golds, a silver and a bronze.
