The press manufacturing giant, which now owns Gallus, announced the DCS 340 launched at Labelexpo in Brussels, saying that it has gone through successful field trials. It has sold two and has orders for another 10.

At the front end, the press uses Heidelberg’s Prinect technology. Heidelberg says users can therefore integrate the systems into their existing workflow environment, adding that its software expertise offers Heidelberg easier access to new market sectors such as digital label printing.

Jason Oliver, head of digital at Heidelberg, says, “Since our announcement in 2013 on rapidly expanding digital business in collaboration with successful partners and offering new business models and applications to users in the packaging and commercial printing sectors, we have come along in leaps and bounds and introduced the first products. The interest and positive response from our customers show we are on the right track.

“In launching a digital web press, we have reached a key milestone. At next year’s drupa we’ll also be showcasing digital print innovations for sheetfed printing and thus rapidly expanding our digital portfolio.”

Based on Fujifilm’s inkjet technology, the new press comes as a result of a joint development between Heidelberg, its subsidiary Gallus, and Fujifilm.

Heidelberg says the machine combines print quality, flexibility, and productivity.
