The show will have more than 170 stands and a range of seminars, workshops, excellence awards spread across five halls at the upgraded exhibition centre where Printech was held in May.

It will also show the Massey Food Awards, illustrating new standards of excellence in innovation, presentation and creativity. This year Foodtech Packtech is a sponsor of the Gourmet Foods Award showcasing products designed for the “exclusive, indulgent, high-added-value” segment of the retail food market. Plastics NZ Awards will be displayed in six categories plus a Supreme Award.

Industry sectors served by Foodtech Packtech include beverage, cosmetics, dairy, distribution, frozen food, manufacturing, meat, processing, pharmaceutical, produce, retail, seafood, supermarket and many others.

Recent statistics suggest that 72% of visitors will aim to buy immediately or in the near future. Nearly three quarters spend half a day or more at the show and some 63% hold managerial positions.

At the 2004 Foodtech Packtech, nearly a quarter of visitors held personal purchasing power in excess of $250,000. Over a half attended to evaluate new technology. This time over 4000 industry professionals are expected.

On the first day of the show, the Packaging Council of New Zealand (Inc) will present breakfast and lunch sessions featuring David Perchard, Europe’s foremost expert on recycling policy.

There will also be a workshop on Sustainable Packaging presented by Helen Lewis from the Centre for Design at RMIT University, Melbourne.

The New Zealand Institute of Food Science and Technology (Inc) will run seminar sessions on all three days and invite members to attend.

To recognise and encourage student research and development in the Food Technology and Packaging Technology sectors, Foodtech Packtech will host a display by some 40 research students currently attending Massey, Otago and Auckland universities.
