In the spotlight at the show were fully automatic presetting with PreTronic CV plus quality monitoring with QualityEye in the UniDrum. Thanks to simple functions combined with paper transport that’s always in the right direction, Ferag says the UniDrum creates the ideal conditions for short changeover sequences, high quality during the run-up phase, and rapid acceleration to maximum speeds. As a result, the net output of the UniDrum gatherer-stitcher drum from the lower to the top circulations comes out at a cost per copy that’s possible only with rotary processing. And with central PreTronic format presetting, which is being launched at drupa, system productivity now undergoes another significant boost.
A new development by Ferag is the QualityEye quality monitoring system. Ferag says it assures perfect product quality and stable production. QualityEye is based on image recognition using a camera that identifies the folded sheets on a set section of the printed image. At the same time, QualityEye monitors the correct positioning of the signatures on the UniDrum carrier elements.
Ferag confirmed its traditional commitment to newspaper producers with a production line that aims at far more than classic newspaper processing. Add-on components for trimming and stitching as well as system-wide format presetting with PreTronic N allow the efficient production of high-quality magazines and advertising products with varying formats as an addition to newspaper processing, and also make for the fastest set-up sequences. Thomas Klumpp, managing director of Ferag Australia says an increasing number of Australian newspaper publishers are looking at developing their semi commercial printing and publishing businesses, and the new Ferag technology will provide a pathway to semi commercial production.
At the show Ferag polybagging celebrated its world premiere in the 30,000 performance class in the form of PolyStream. Historically foil sealing is the main culprit for the low speed of conventional polybagging lines. And it’s here that Ferag has chosen a completely new approach, with PolyStream surpassing the performance of earlier systems by a factor of three. It’s also thanks to the first-ever integration of the repair function into the collecting process that the new Ferag polybagging line brings the increase in production stability and product quality.
