DeskPack plug-ins are a Scope software component that turns Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop into full-featured production workstations for packaging design and pre-press.

The patented technology developed by Esko is used to create more than 90% of all packaging designs, the company claims.

Its new version, the DeskPack 3-dX takes design to a new level with the innovative ability to generate a virtual three-dimensional view of a package within the familiar operating environment of Adobe Illustrator.

The plug-in facilitates 3D guidance to navigate through complex structural designs and automatically maintains a live link between 2D production and 3D design visualisation. This facilitates a virtual view while building up the graphics, just as if the designer was holding the product in his or her hands.

Other applications include ImageX, which translates embedded images into separate, externally linked images, enabling operators to select images, writes them to disk with an automatic feature that re-links them into the Adobe Illustrator file.

SeamlessX, for gravure or flexo cylinder workflows is used to calculate the correct spacing and repeat numbers to properly wrap the graphic around the cylinder, assuring seamless, continuous output, all within Adobe Illustrator.

ScreenX can assign multiple rulings, angles and/or screen definitions—as well as specific dot gain compensations—to different design objects in a single separation.
It also promoted its newest and smallest member of the Kongsberg CAM table product line at the XE10 table at Graph Expo. This is a robust, small-format dieless cutting table ideally suited for sample making for decal, small folding carton and other specialty print applications.

Meanwhile Esko has introduced a targeted range of value added consulting services that deliver expert advice for customers.

It is offering consulting services in five key domains: ’Quick Wins’, aimed at designing and achieving an ROI improvement roadmap; Colour Excellence to improve color management standards and capabilities; Operational Excellence, geared at improving workflow efficiency and effectiveness; Collaborative Excellence, integrating partners in the packaging supply chain; and Integration Excellence, integrating application architectures based on the JDF framework.
