Waikato University has installed a Duplo 150 Digital Booklet System, supplied by T S Wilson Jnr, into its print shop to help streamline its in-house processes.
Waikato Print had previously outsourced its booklet making adding an extra step to the procedure taking several days. Melanie Olsen, production manager at Waikato Print, production manager, says, “We’ve always had very good advice and service through T S Wilson and this machine was well within our budget and has a small enough footprint for our workshop.”
The system combines what T S Wilson calls the world’s smallest fully automatic bookletmaker, the DBM-150, with the new generation DSF-2200 sheet feeder. Karen Farr, general manager at T S Wilson, says the solution has application for low to mid-volume digitally printed sheets, describing it as, “an extremely compact, modular system combining a sheet feeder, bookletmaker and trimmer. Its features include job integrity for confidence that production is correct, fast operation and two feed trays to allow the merging of differently finished stocks.

“Being a modular system, Duplo has a range of alternative feeding and finishing devices that provide customers the opportunity to upgrade or change devices as your needs change and business develops.”
It can finish up to 2400 books per hour, handling sheet sizes from 120mm x 210mm to 320mm x 460mm and paper weights from 64 to 300gsm. An eight-belt feeding mechanism on the feeder enables the feed head to make contact with a large area of the sheet. Each bin comes with three separate DC fans, one to provide suction for feeding, another to provide front air to separate the lead edge of the sheets and a final one to provide side air to separate the sides of the sheets allowing air to flow through the entire length of the sheet for optimal paper separation.
