Located at the top of College Hill in the inner-city Ponsonby Road precinct, the busy copy shop was bought a year ago by Paul and Trish Deed, Trish's sister Jenni Robertson and a former work colleague, Ly Nguyen.

Since then the four directors have been busy upgrading technology, smartening up their business practises and changing the firm's image with new signage, business cards and a corporate logo "all your needs at speed."

Speed is certainly what they now offer says Ly, especially after the installation the company's latest piece of equipment, a semi-automatic EBA 551 guillotine through distributor TS Wilson Jnr Ltd. It replaced an old lever-style guillotine.

The EBA guillotine comes with an airbed to make manoeuvring paper around the table very simple, it is fully hydraulic and this model has a new feature, a red optical laser beam which makes cutting extremely accurate.

"Nobody wanted to do the guillotining before," Ly says. "It was an old, manual-operated one and it was difficult to get an accurate cut, especially when you only had a one or two millimetre margin to work with," she says.

"This new guillotine has sped things up to the point that it has brought our turnaround times forward substantially."

In the past they were only able to offer their customers with finishing needs a two-day service. Now they can offer either the same day service or the next day.

"This has pleased most of our clients because many of them are designers who need to push out their work quickly too."

Ly says they also changed the way the Documents Unlimited business operated within its premises which has increased turnover and improved margins. Within the past year they have replaced four of their printing machines to new generation copiers and are constantly looking at ways of simplifying their operation to offer their clients a better service.

She says that while they accommodate the needs of local businesses, designers and some walk-in custom, their client base is widely spread around the city from Mt Eden to the nearby Viaduct Basin.
