Heading up DES NZ Ltd as business development manager in Devonport, Auckland, is respected industry figure, Derk Schoemaker.

A photolithographer by trade, Schoemaker has many years of experience in the industry, and has worked in lithography, letterpress and flexo.

Prior to the establishment of DES in Auckland, the company had been operating a distributor and dealership model in New Zealand.

Significant market research and analysis convinced DES management that the time was ripe for expansion into the New Zealand market.

“As the largest independent player in Australia, it was logical that we should expand the DES brand to New Zealand,” explains Russell Cavenagh, sales director, DES Pty Ltd.

“An increasing number of companies conduct business on the opposite side of the Tasman, and many are looking to maintain the same supply relationships in both Australia and New Zealand.

“New Zealand is a most innovative market and DES is delighted to now be able to bring the most innovative solutions to the professional printing markets in both countries,” says Cavenagh.

Among the high profile brands which DES sells and services in both countries is CGS and EFI and, says Cavenagh, more will be announced shortly.

This year, DES celebrates its 20th anniversary, and since 1987 has grown from five employees in one office to 92 employees across eight offices.

"New Zealand will reap the benefits of years of experience, united with technical skills and resources that gives DES an unmatched strength in the application of digital proofing and colour management," comments Cavenagh.

"We look forward to providing a new market with the cost effective, innovative products that have gained us our solid reputation in Australia."
