The installation of the VTLF500 dry running carbon vane vacuum pumps, through New Zealand distributor 4 Ways Ltd has represented a considerably cheaper option for the stationery printing specialist, says chief engineer John Alston.

The oil in the 1000m3/h oil-sealed pumps has to be changed every six to eight weeks to keep the pumps clean. Without this – the new Becker pumps don’t need any oil to run on – the pumps driving the machinery are much cheaper to run.

Initially the Becker pumps will work in conjunction with the current oil-sealed pumps but eventually more VTLF500 should replace all the oil-sealed pumps.

Not only are the VTLF500 cheaper to keep and maintain but are cleaner because without the oil there is no chance of contamination of either the printed medium or the machinery.

Alston says the installation process was very smooth. “It only took two days. We will eventually replace all our pumps with new Becker ones because they are good maintenance free pumps and very cost competitive compared with having to refurbish the older ones.”

4 Ways has had many years experience in providing all aspects of vacuum & low-pressure technology to the New Zealand printing industry. It has facilities in Auckland and Christchurch to service both the North and South Islands.

The company is the New Zealand agent for the German-based Becker, the world’s largest supplier of dry running carbon vane pumps. Becker supplies to most manufacturers including Heidelberg and Roland. Other major brands within their portfolio include Orion, Esam, BOC-Edwards, Finder, Nitto and Masport

4 Ways Ltd supplies, installs and overhauls pumps and associated equipment and when machine downtime is of the utmost importance, they can offer a hire pump for their large fleet to keep production running while their customers’ equipment is being repaired or serviced.

They stock many new Becker pumps along with a vast range of spare parts for most leading brands, including a wide selection of filters, vanes, gasket sets.
