The move will see 70 workers – some of whom have more than 25 years experience with the company – lose their jobs.

AMWU Victorian Print Division Secretary, Jim Reid, says anyone with a card from one of Leigh Mardon’s clients would have to worry about their card details being sent overseas.

“How will Leigh Mardon guarantee the secure transport of finished cards if they send this work and the jobs across the Tasman,” he says.

Leigh Mardon produces cards for National Australia Bank, ANZ Bank, Westpac and Medibank Private, as well as Victorian, Western Australian and Tasmanian driver’s licences.

Other cards produced at the site include state government Visa cards, pension cards and membership cards for supermaket chain, Safeway, and the Victorian, WA and Queensland Royal Automobile clubs.

“Many of Leigh Mardon’s clients like NAB and the RAC have an iconic Australian status and their customers would rightly expect them to invest and keep jobs in Australia, as well as making sure that personal details stay as safe as possible”, Reid says.
