New Zealand and Australian companies have exceeded expectations at the WorldStar Packaging Awards.

The Australian Institute of Packaging (AIP) has announced the results of the in the latest round of the WorldStar Packaging Awards. New Zealand and Australian companies received the third highest numer of wins in the world behind Japan and Germany.

AIP says for three years in a row, the region has dominated the global awards programme. It adds that this reflects the innovative packaging designs developed in the Southern Hemisphere. The World Packaging Organisation (WPO) runs the WorldStar Packaging Awards. Only winners from the Australasian Packaging Innovation & Design (PIDA) awards can enter these global awards.

This latest round of WorldStar Packaging Awards attracted 435 entries from 41 countries. The 35 expert judges determined 214 winners for the 2024 round of the awards programme.

Multiple category winners

Nerida Kelton, executive director of the AIP, says, “We are extremely pleased that ANZ PIDA Winners have again received international recognition. They have claimed 16 awards across eight categories. These include packaging materials and components; food; household, health and personal care; e-commerce; labelling and decoration; as well as alcoholic beverages.

“The awards recognised three of our innovators across multiple categories. These were for DualPakECO certified compostable food trays from Confoil/BASF; Wine Protector Packaging from Planet Protector Packaging; and KOi foaming handwash starter kit and refill solution by Coles Group. In addition, Organic Food Co was recognised for the Australasian-first Minestrone Soup mono material retort pouch by Flavour Makers and Toppan. Another highlight was Future Ecology – Emguard by Oji Fibre Solutions from New Zealand.’

“The continued global recognition of Australian and New Zealand packaging designs is a testament for PIDA’s strict criteria and judging process and AIP’s supporting work to ensure that our winners enter the WorldStar Packaging awards each year. We look forward to celebrating the winners on June  at the15 WorldStar Packaging Award ceremony which will take place alongside ProPak Asia in Thailand.”
