EPMU national secretary, Andrew Little, say the announcement by Fairfax Media that it intends cutting around 70 New Zealand jobs is of deep concern.

Australian-based Fairfax owns a stable of New Zealand publications, including the Dominion Post, the Press, the Waikato Times, the Sunday Star-Times, and Sunday News.

Fairfax Media Chief Executive, Joan Withers, says the actual number of redundancies may be in the vicinity of 2.5% of the total workforce of approximately 2700. The positions affected could include editorial and publishing.
