The category award winners spent two days in Auckland undergoing interviews to select the apprentice of the year. Supported by employers and families, they received their certificates at the breakfast in the run up to the Pride In Print Awards held later that evening.

Joan Grace, CEO of PrintNZ thanked sponsors Agfa NZ, BJ Ball Papers and Kodak. She remarked on the quality of the award winners, not just for their outstanding work ethic but also for their outlook on life. She said, "The candidates all talked of, and acknowledged their team mates, how their teams fitted within their organisations, and their vision for the future. They talked of the importance of the support they received from their families, especially during those times when they wanted to tear their hair out."

One of the award winners, Kieran Dale of Logick Print & Graphics in Auckland competed at the 2007 WorldSkills trade competition in Japan, where he won a bronze medal. He detailed his experience of the NZ$100m event in a presentation, with awards judge Grant Leftus.

After the presentaion of the category certificates, the GAPF scholarship was presented by Bill Ashworth to Brendon Evans, and the Jenkins Group award was presented by Trevor Bowles to Richard Hughes.
