Amcor says it has achieved a high standard of environmental sustainability and intends to eliminate all waste to landfill.

As part of this programme the company is investigating the use of laser coders to be installed at some time in the future.

In the meantime, it continues to wrack up its score of more than 300 million cans per year with Videojet Excel 170i Ultra printers supplied and installed by Tronics on production lines at its Hastings factory in 2002,  to meet new Food Standards and FDA expectations.

The Videojet printers run seven days a week, each coding 580 cans per minute – a production-line speed of more than 330 metres per minute. All four printers are interchangeable between the various production lines.

Each machine delivers multiple-line codes with a single printhead recording the time and date and identifications for the line and the seamer head.

Advanced software automatically monitors and adjusts ink viscosity and the printhead is automatically cleaned at shutdown for reduced maintenance and increased uptime.
Amcor engineer, Tim Seed, says the main issue at the time the company bought the high speed printers was to ensure they could with the speed of the production lines.

“So far their performance has been superb. The printers are highly efficient,” he says.  He also has praise for the supplier saying Tronics and its local engineer have given Amcor superb backup service.
