Hamilton’s Admark scored four medals at last year’s Specialist Graphic Industry Association (SGIA) Golden Image Awards but has now topped that by receiving the 2014 Best in Show: Digital Creativity Award for its Air New Zealand ‘The Hobbit – The Desolation of Smaug’ signage.

Johnny Shell, vice president of technical services for SGIA, says, “Receiving one of these awards places the winner at the very top of the world’s leading printers. Achieving such high quality indicates remarkable control and ability.”

Admark has flown the New Zealand flag with massive success in global competitions, bringing home 33 international awards and countless national awards. Laurie Pilling, managing director at Admark, gives credit to his team for the company’s success.

To win the supreme award in the world is like winning the best picture at the Oscar’s, an achievement that we are all incredibly proud of.”

Admark’s Air New Zealand ‘The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug’ plane features a 54 metre graphic depicting the giant dragon from the book and movie. Applied to both sides of the plane, it comprises 372 panels, the largest applied to any aircraft in the world. The company’s other SGIA medals came from Burger King backlit displays: silver for Burger King’s ‘The Feast’ backlit; bronze for Burger King’s ‘Brewers Chicken’ backlit; and an honourable mention for Burger King’s ‘Kings Collection’ backlit.

Pilling says the company works with top New Zealand and international brands including Air New Zealand, Fonterra and BP Oil. Its innovative design, printing and production methods mean that Admark can print on almost anything, and can produce everything from food and product labels, to large scale graphics for tankers, boats and aircraft. Its motto: if you can dream it, we can print it.

The SGIA Golden Image Awards attract entries from all over of the world, encouraging excellence in screen and large format digital printing. Several judges said this year’s awards delivered one of the toughest competitions they’ve judged and any award given out denotes an extraordinary achievement. They award only one gold medal is awarded in each category each year.
