Rotomec, part of the Bobst Group, ran the open day at its Technology Centre in Italy and expects the new press to receive worldwide acceptance.
The MW 60 stands for minimised waste in gravure printing including material, energy and space requirements.
These minimised levels of waste are achieved through innovative press design and automation, Rotomec says. The MW 60 is a non-trolley type gravure line that is operated totally from floor level. The design of the print units provides for front loading of different types of gravure printing cylinders: lightweight, thin sleeves or traditional hollow cylinders.
The system for changing the printing cylinder and/or the inking system and the impression sleeve, takes one operator less than two minutes to complete without tools or without releasing the web tension.
Overall dimensions are extremely compact so that the web path is very short, only 50 m for a 10-colour line, hence 50% shorter as compared to a conventional gravure press.
This feature, combined with the innovative peak efficiency ventilation system that guarantees minimum solvent retention on the web, enables operators to achieve minimum waste of substrate, ink, solvent, as well as greatly reduced energy consumption.
Rotomec has also developed a comprehensive set of production cost tools for both very short run and medium web productions.
