wage subsidy extension and
The changes reflect how Alert Level Three in Auckland affects the entire country

The government has released details of its wage subsidy extension and changes to its leave support scheme.

PrintNZ has advised that businesses can apply for a further two weeks of wage subsidy extension to cover the period of extended restrictions. Ruth Cobb, chief executive at PrintNZ, says, “The government has made the scheme available nationwide. This recognises the impact the change in Levels will have across the country.”

To apply for the extension, a business must have had, or predict to have, a downturn of 40 per cent or more for a period of 14 days between August 12 and September 10. Applications should open at the end of this week. Businesses still receiving the wage subsidy extension during that period can’t apply for the payment.

Leave Support Scheme changes

The Leave Support Scheme has received an amendment to support vulnerable workers that can’t go to work, or those required to go into isolation because of exposure to Covid-19.

All businesses that have staff that cannot go to work for their own or other’s health reasons, or those that are required to self-isolate, can apply for the Leave Support payment for those workers.

Before making the application for Leave Support, businesses must discuss the application with employees and obtain the employee’s consent to the relevant points outlined in the declaration, and the must agree that they fall into one of the eligible groups.

Cobb adds, “PrintNZ will keep you updated but, if you have any questions, please contact us.”
