Two Scandinavian companies are helping their customers transition to plastic free packaging with fibre-based products.

Scandicore is one of the Nordic region’s leading manufacturers of sustainable cores and tubes for the manufacturing industry. It has partnered with PulPac, owner of Dry Molded Fibre. Pulpac has developed a paper lid for Scandicore’s paper tubes. They say one of Europe’s leading online stores for art prints has already signed up to offer their products in completely plastic free and fibre-based packaging from Scandicore.

Eva Engström, chief executive at Scandicore, says, “Safeguarding the environment and the quality of our products, are our primary competitive advantages. The physical strength of the Dry Molded Fibre products, in combination with resource efficiency, where valuable water resources and energy are saved, in addition to significant reductions of CO2, makes this a strategic investment for Scandicore.

“We have listenined to the market. Our customers have asked for this solution. As a result, we are proud to start the journey to support the green and sustainable choice of our customer.”

Replacing plastic

Pulpac invented and owns Dry Molded Fibre, a fibre forming technology that can replace single-use plastic with sustainable fiber-based alternatives. The patented technology is available to converters that set up their own production. In addition, PulPac and partners have developed the PulPac Modula standardised machine platform. It is rolling this out to licensees now.

Sanna Fager, chief commercial Officer at PulPac, says, “We offer a ‘wheat to bread’ setup. This delivers application development, tool making, and sample production to ease the transition to Dry Molded Fibre. In close collaboration with our clients, we develop competitive, and sustainable market ready applications.

“The paper tube lid is a perfect fit for our technology. Consequenlty, we are happy to partner with Scandicore to bring this solution to the market.”
