Graham McDonald, production printing sales manager at Canon New Zealand, describes the press as the first colour device with clear toner for the light production and proofing markets. He says, “We are very excited about this product, because it really is a first of its kind. Not only does it further a user’s creativity, it enables them to open up their printing capability and produce new items for their own business or for clients. This usually means either a significant cost saving or an actual revenue generator.”

The new press prints five colours (CMYK + clear) in one pass, or it can add clear toner to pre-printed articles. Canon says this allows users to add visual texture to any layout, giving customers many new creative capabilities such as metallic like printing and photo-like images, for applying to the production of vouchers, tickets or certificates. Other features include watermarking for security, spot matt/gloss coating, reverse matt coating and flood matt coating.

Equipped with colour management tools to work with industry standards, the press is aimed at various commercial environments where communications need to make a visual impact. MacDonald says, “From creative agencies designing logos and advertising campaigns, through to corporate environments where watermarks are required and proposals need to stand out, the imagePRESS C1+ allows its users to take a huge creative step forward and enable them to print a far greater range of items.”
