Competenz joined with other six other major industry training organisations to launch Got a Trade Week, which takes place this week.

The launch, held in Auckland, brings a host of industries together to promote job training careers. Printing, signage, and packaging companies will play host to people interested in taking up opportunities for work, apprenticeships, and other career opportunities.

Competenz aims to help Kiwis build skills, careers and businesses, partnering with businesses that share an interest in trades and training the next generation. Speaking at the launch event, Rachel Hopkins, general manager marketing and communications at Competenz, outlined the importance of on the job training and how it changes lives and helps the industry, and the country, grow. The organisers of Got a Trade Week invited 22 people who have already enjoyed success in their trades and placed their stories on to the web site.

During the week, more than 1500 people will attend events around got a Trade Week. Hopkins thanked the businesses around the country hosting potential apprentices; Mark O’Grady and his team at NZ Print for providing the printing for the promotion and the EPMU, which funded a video record of the week.

More than 30 companies will play host to Competenz Discovery Tours, an opportunity for school leavers and parents to explore the workplace; to see live demonstrations; and to meet apprentices already working in the industry. These free events will showcase a range of industry sectors including baking, butchery; printing; signmaking, forestry; and all forms of engineering.
