Bobst has expanded its packaging footprint and moved further into digital with a new digital folding carton press for the system it has co-developed with Kodak. It already has two beta test sites in Germany and Switzerland and a further two at its headquarters. Ferrostaal supplies Bobst in New Zealand. Carstern Wendler, managing director of Ferrostaal for Australasia says, “Bobst is a conservative businesses, it has no need to rush into things, but is well down the track of bringing digital innovation to the market.â€

At drupa, digitally driven automation played a key role in the Bobst line-up. The giant show gave Bobst a chance to demonstrate its innovations in sheet-fed die-cutting and folding and gluing processes with its new Mastercut 106 PER and Masterfold 110 A3. Bobst says these offer higher running speeds, much faster makereadies, less waste, increased uptime, and technology, all of which Bobst claims can make zero-fault production achievable. The company has also placed these features on its MasterfoilL 106 PR hot foil stamping press, which offers a new module, the Foil Unwinder+. The company also unveiled three web-fed presses aimed at packaging. The M6 UV flexo press uses digital flexo printing onto folding cartons and flexible packaging. The CL 750D compact laminator offers a way into ultra-short run laminating. Bobst adds that the MW 85F & MW 125F CI flexo presses offer new levels of flexible packaging print productivity. For gravure printers, Bobst introduced the RS 6002, an eco-friendly press that handles short and long run production of flexible materials applications. The new RS 6003 gravure press has come from the 4003 platform and offers HMI and register control systems, accommodating both shafted and shaftless printing cylinders.
