Elton McAleer, systems integration specialist at Frontline Technologies, said, “I think the main problem is not enough of us are talking to each other. We’ve got designers doing some of it and printers doing some of it but, to a large extent, the old communication lines have gone out the window. We need to re-establish these lines.”
Frontline Technologies NZ Limited hosted the summit at Auckland’s Stardome in One Tree Hill last Friday. The summit, titled Colourspace: The Final Frontier, attracted almost 100 people from a variety of print industry occupations including designers, printers, photographers, print buyers and suppliers.
McAleer gave advice on ISO standards and covered a range of related topics including Standards, design & production, prepress controls that can be put in place, and press optimisation.
He emphasised the need for people in the industry to consider ways of improving communication with each other and said, “We’re in a manufacturing environment but it’s changed, and continues to change. We’re also in a global environment.” McAleer encouraged feedback from the attendees and quipped, “I’m not trying to start my own little ISO club here.”
Craig Gemmell, business development manager, Frontline Technologies, facilitated a lively general discussion forum on areas of colour management, some of which were quite contentious. He said, “We’re passionate about colour. As a Fogra partner we’re unashamedly committed to continuing the momentum we’ve established in the worldwide acceptance of ISO standards and in assisting New Zealand companies to gain Fogra certification.”
Gemmell thanked PrintNZ, Syscap and and Eizo for supporting the summit and expressed an intention to keep the lines of communication open. He said, “We see this as the beginning of a continuing forum. We’ll email everyone here and follow up with more information as well as requesting feedback.”
