Following an action packed year in 2018, PrintNZ has hit the ground running in 2019 with events and activities planned for the year.

The first quarter looks especially busy with seminars in Feburary and graduations from March through to May. Ruth Cobb, general manager at PrintNZ, says, “2019 will be another busy year and the team at PrintNZ share a commitment to continue and expand the work we do in and on behalf of the industry.”

Three key dates to put in your diaries:

Wednesday 27 March            Christchurch Training Graduation
Thursday 4 April                     Auckland Training Graduation
Friday 3 May                           Pride In Print Awards, Wellington

Cobb says, “The graduations provide an opportunity for every trainee that has completed a qualification in 2018 to be recognised in front of their colleagues and family. If you have had someone complete a training programme then make sure you give them the chance to come along and celebrate.

“The graduations are also the first step in the Apprentice of the Year process with the Top 10 finalists being announced at these events, alongside the Trainer of the Year, Training Company of the Year and Diploma of Print Management finalists.

“The Pride In Print Awards include a night of glitz and glamour that celebrates the excellent work that the industry produces. It also provides the platform for announcing the overall winners of the Apprentice of the Year, Training Company and Trainer of the Year awards.”

At the end of last year, changes to the Employment Relations Act passed through Parliament. Some of these took effect immediately and some take effect from May 6. Commencing February, PrintNZ will run seminars around the country. She says, “The seminars ensure you have the correct information. Watch out for full details of dates and locations. Changes to be covered include:

Restrictions on 90-day trial periods
Restoration of statutory meal breaks
Reinstatement as a primary remedy
Union rights and changes to collective bargaining
Domestic Violence – Victims Protection Act
Triangular Relationships Bill
Minimum Wage Act

If you have staff members due to renew their First Aid Certificates in 2019, remember that as a member of PrintNZ you can get a discount off the courses at St John by entering the discount code in the Promo box on the payment page. Email pam.seymour@printnz.co.nz to get the discount code. Cobb says, “Every business should have a trained first aider on their premises to ensure they are complying with the requirements of the Health and Safety Act.”

“And don’t forget PrintEx 2019, which will run alongside Visual Impact Sydney 2019 and Label & Packaging Expo 2019 at the Sydney Showgrounds, Sydney Olympic Park, from August 13 – 16.

“The PrintE event has been expanded this year to co-locate with Visual Impact and the Label & Packaging Expo to make the trip across the Tasman even more worthwhile. This will ensure that the show covers the full gambit of the printing spectrum and there is something there for everyone. Mark those dates in your diaries and start planning your trip.”
