PrintNZ and Competenz have celebrated print industry graduations in Christchurch and Auckland.
 
In Auckalnd, Ruth Cobb, general manager for PrintNZ, welcomed everyone to the event and congratulated the graduates on their achievements. She said, “This graduation, like last week’s Christchurch graduation is about the people in the industry and the love they have for the industry.”
 
Premium sponsor BJ Ball has supported the graduations since their inception four years ago and has a long history of supporting training in the industry. Richard Hislop, general manager BJ Ball, said, “We need a strong industry and we see this as a vital part of that. Something that goes unnoticed and under the radar is the work that Ruth and her team do. And also to the employers who like us, are investing in the industry, making a strong commitment. Well done to you all.”

Tony Sayle, chairman of PrintNZ, announced the graduates, and said, “These graduations encourage ongoing learning in the industry. They are a celebration and you are licensed to whoop and holler. Some of the graduates are at the beginning of their learning journey and others are already along the road. You should all be immensely proud and I congratulate you. There are so many of you here; not only graduates but friends and families.
 
“Being part of the print industry, you re part pf a $900bn dollar a year global industry. The New Zealand printing industry contributes close to $2bn to the New Zealand GDP.
 
“The need for ongoing succession presents many opportunities for people in the industry. The print industry in New Zealand will require 600 new employees each year to replace people who are leaving the industry through retirement and natural attriition. So seize the countless opportunities/ These are exciting and dynamic times for everyone in this industry.”
