About 6000 tickets have a barcode error which could mean delays for ticketholders trying to get into the concert at Ericsson Stadium in Auckland.

The tickets were sold via New Zealand Post ticketing, and Red Tickets, which manages ticketing via Post says that about 1500 customers are affected.

The company says ticketholders should not leave it until the night of the concert to exchange their tickets.

The 2006 leg of U2’s Vertigo tour kicks off in South America with a performance at Monterrey’s Technológico Stadium in Mexico on February 12. The band will travel on to Brazil, Chile and Argentina before heading for New Zealand where they will perform at Auckland’s Ericsson Stadium on March 17 and 18.

After Auckland, the band will travel to Australia with performances scheduled for Brisbane (March 21), Melbourne (March 24 and 25), Adelaide (March 28) and Sydney (March 31 and April1). From Auckland, U2 will move on to Japan for two performances in Yokohama and thence to Hawaii for the last two shows of their huge Vertigo tour.

It is understood that band members Bono, Edge, Larry Mullins and Adam Clayton (and their manager, Paul McGuinness) earned a whopping €214m (NS$380m) from the sell-out Vertigo tour in 2005 alone. According to Rolling Stone magazine, the quartet performed in front of three million fans worldwide, at 188 sold-out shows.
