Imagepress ‘X’ and ‘Y’ will be the newest additions to Canon’s fast-growing professional digital colour product portfolio.
Using a number of brand-new technologies that include a new fusing system, new toner, a new development system, and new high-precision registration systems, the Imagepress ‘X’ and ‘Y’ engines deliver high image quality that will enable companies to generate new business opportunities with an attractive capital investment.
The newly developed toner and imaging technology delivers output with the look, feel, and consistency of offset printing. To manage the data transfer that ensures consistently high speeds and with high image quality, the engines will be driven by a new DFE/Controller co-developed with EFI.

The Imagepress ‘X’ will complement lithographic production processes and methods, and can be integrated into existing workflow systems. Meeting lithographic print quality requirements, Imagepress ‘X’ has been positioned to help printers generate additional business by providing a more diverse range of service offerings, therefore enabling them to profitably take on shorter run jobs from customers and meet fast turnaround deadlines. Additionally, the Imagepress ‘X’ enables printers to offer more diverse and flexible services to their customers that offset printing cannot manage, such as full colour variable data printing.
Imagepress ‘Y’ offers professional print quality that can be used for proofing, at a speed that can be used for Short Run and Print on Demand applications. It is a next generation solution that has the potential to be used for a range of business applications in a number of professional print environments. For the Creative and Graphics arts markets, Imagepress ‘Y’ can be used as a proofing device; for Print for Pay and Corporate users, an On-Demand printer and for Commercial Printers it can be used as a very short run Press.
