Foodtech Packtech 2006 is widely regarded as the most important trade event for New Zealand’s food technology and packaging technology industries.

Nineteen stands have already been secured by overseas companies and the total booked to date now exceeds 140.

The show will fill five halls at the renovated ASB Showgrounds venue. In addition there will be displays from eight industry organizations such as Packaging Council of NZ, Plastics NZ, Food & Grocery Council, Steel Can Association, NZ Paperboard Packaging Association, Glass Packaging Forum, Environmental Beverage Action Group, and NZ Retailers Association.

The NZ Institute of Food Science & Technology says that recent reports have highlighted significant growth in added value food exports across all food sectors and Foodtech Packtech provides the venue for industry representatives to meet with suppliers from both the processing and packaging sectors.

Some exhibitors will launch a variety of new products. Jenkins Labels will be demonstrating the latest in self-adhesive labels and shrink sleeve labeling. The range is unique and will include some types new to the market.

Also on show will be a new generation laser coding machine from Videojet Alltec will be demonstrated by Tronics which has the largest print area of any laser coder on the market, and a multi-laning capacity that can code on to any substrate.

The New Zealand Institute of Packaging will present the Innovation Awards which are designed to recognize new ideas and new thinking in the NZ packaging industry.

The Awards will be made in three categories: Packaging Components or Complete Product Package, Packaging Process or Material, and Packaging Machinery. All entries will be on display and the presentation to winners will be at an Awards Breakfast at the show.

NZIP spokesman Mike Needham says the packaging industry turns over a billion dollars in New Zealand and supplies pristine products to markets all over the world.
